Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen
Klassroom

Overview

Klassroom is an app that teachers and parents can download to their phones to easily communicate and engage with each other. Teachers can post assignments, add events, schedule conferences, and upload pictures. This is very similar to Facebook.

Note: This can be used with Pre-K.- 12th grade.

Students will:

  • Be able to have their parents look at their phone app for information on homework, conferences, absentees, and more.

Vocabulary Words:

  1.  Klassroom: Klassroom is very similar to Facebook. It is a means for parent-teacher communication.

  2. With Signature: A parent signature is required to show that they saw the post.

To prepare for this lesson:

  • Klassroom has a YouTube channel with many videos to learn how to use all its features. Choose the videos that will assist you when setting up your account and using the app with parents.

  • Download the Klassroom app on your phone. You will need to enter your phone number to verify your account.

  • You can now set up your class. Create a unique classroom key that you can share with the parents. Parents will use this key to access and join your Klassroom. You will be able to approve them before they can enter.

  • Once parents have joined your class, you are now ready to start posting. You can even schedule posts ahead of time.

  • You can also choose to require parents to sign something so you know they read it. Parents can also comment, like something, and add reactions to your post.

  • You can add pictures, videos, or documents, and create events like field trips, lists, and even a poll.

  • Parents can also post and ask questions to you and other parents on your class wall. You can require approval before they are posted.

  • You can post homework assignments, customize the requirements, and set a specific due date. You can even schedule these in advance.

  • You can also share photos and videos of classroom memories. They even have an option at the end of the school year where parents can purchase a photo book or animated picture book.

  • Parents can request appointments and you can schedule parent/teacher conferences. You can also video chat with parents or even students if they have a question about homework or something else.
