Overview

Disney’s Color and Play App allows students to color their favorite Disney characters and animate them or make them 3D and have them pop off their page.

This is a free app available on iOS or Google Play and the coloring pages are free downloads as well.

Students will:

  • Be able to color pictures from the Disney Color and Play app.
  • Be able to bring their art into the real world.

Vocabulary Words:

  1. Virtual Reality: Virtual reality (VR) means experiencing things through our computers that don't really exist.

  2. 2D Shapes: Any shape that can be laid flat on a piece of paper or any mathematical plane is a 2D shape.

  3. 3D Shapes: A 3D shape is having three dimensions (such as height, width and depth), like any object in the real world.

Note: Here is a video on the difference between 2D and 3D shapes.

To prepare for this lesson:

  • Watch the video on "How to use the Disney Color and Play App".

  • Watch the video "Difference between 2D and 3D Shapes".

  • Decide what coloring pages you want to use from the app and print them ahead of time. Many Dollar stores and Michael’s Craft stores sell coloring books for the app as well for around $1.

  • Have crayons readily available and iPads or tablets charged to go.

  • Double check the app for updates. The updates may take a while, so have the app updated before working with the students.

See the Accommodations Page and Charts on the 21things4students website in the Teacher Resources.

Directions for this activity:

  1. The teacher will talk about the differences between 2D and 3D shapes.

  2. Explain to the students that they will be creating 3D shapes today using their favorite characters. The best part is if they are really good listeners, they may have their character come to life.

  3. Demonstrate the Disney Color and Play App.

  4. Color a page as an example.

  5. Give students time to color and then have their character come to life!

Extension: If time permits, you can have the students screenshot their character and print. (Before you download this experience, note this app will request access to your device’s camera and external storage to take a picture; upload and save content from the app to your device; and will record audio to the app.)

Different options for assessing the students:

MITECS: Michigan adopted the "ISTE Standards for Students" called MITECS (Michigan Integrated Technology Competencies for Students) in 2018.
