Ziteboard Collaboration

Creative Communicator, Global Collaborator

Overview

Ziteboard is a free online whiteboard with real-time collaboration. It can be used for brainstorming, presentation and communicating. Not only can you use tools that are provided, but pictures and voice can also be inserted.

Students will:

  • Know that Ziteboard is an online tool for collaboration.
  • Be able to work with others on Ziteboard to share ideas and collaborate.

Vocabulary Words:

  1. Zoom: To zoom is to enlarge smoothly to a close-up view.

  2. Icon: An icon is a symbol or graphic representation on a screen.

To prepare for this lesson:

Note: There is an option to purchase different levels of a paid subscription which would contain more features. There are limitations to the free program.

Directions for this activity:

  1. The teacher creates a new board by clicking Create Board from the Ziteboard Menu.

  2. The teacher ’s profile icon will appear at the bottom right corner.

  3. The Ziteboard link appears in the URL address bar.

  4. The Teacher selects “Invite People”  from the Menu and types student's email, or teacher can share the link to students.

  5. The student opens the board link in the invitation email or connects with the link.

  6. The Student's profile icon appears next to the tutor's profile icon.

  7. The content of the board is synced instantly as students work collaboratively.

Different options for assessing the students:

  • Observations
  • Check for understanding
  • Create a rubric with specific criteria for students as they use Ziteboard
  • Use Ziteboard as an exit ticket

MITECS: Michigan adopted the "ISTE Standards for Students" called MITECS (Michigan Integrated Technology Competencies for Students) in 2018.

Creative Communicator
6a. Students choose the appropriate platforms and tools for meeting the desired objectives of their creation or communication.
6b. Students create original works or responsibly repurpose or remix digital resources into new creations.
6c. Students communicate complex ideas clearly and effectively by creating or using a variety of digital objects such as visualizations, models or simulations.
6d. Students publish or present content that customizes the message and medium for their intended audiences.

Global Collaborator
7b. Students use collaborative technologies to work with others, including peers, experts or community members, to examine issues and problems from multiple viewpoints.
7c. Students contribute constructively to project teams, assuming various roles and responsibilities to work effectively toward a common goal.
